Identified on verso in period pencil: “Capt. M. Levy/ CSA.” No photog imprint. Three-cent green Proprietary revenue stamp affixed on verso. Michael Levy served as an ordnance officer supplying large quantities of ammunition to Generals John Hunt Morgan and Nathan Bedford Forrest. Levy’s regiment sustained heavy losses at Shiloh; his brother Julius was killed in action in that battle. EXCEEDINGLY RARE CONFEDERATE IMAGE.
