(HOLOCAUST). RUDOLPH PHILIPP. Raoul Wallenberg: Diplomat, Kämpe, Samarit [“Diplomat, Fighter, Samaritan.”] FIRST EDITION. Text in Swedish. Uncut copy. pp. 204. Original color pictorial wrappers, extremities touch chipped. 8vo. Stockholm, Fredborgs, 1946. “The purpose of this book is not to erect a memorial to one of Sweden’s sons. The goal is to work for Raoul Wallenberg’s release.” Author Rudolph Philipp (1895-1980) wrote this first book on Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg (1912-1947?) who saved thousands of Hungarian Jews from Nazi capture by issuing them Swedish ”protective passports.” Following the Soviet entry into Hungary in January 1945, Wallenberg disappeared. Philipp’s proves here that Wallenberg was taken into Soviet custody and subsequently moved from prison camp to prison camp. He was never heard from again. Philipp / Wallenberg papers can be found in the NYPL, see https://archives.nypl.org/mss/6317.
