Copies issued between August 19th, 1682 and July 3rd, 1683 (all but one between April-July, 1683. Includes references to the Rye House Plot (final two issues). Each issue single sheet, double columns printed on both sides. Folded across center. Sm. folio. London, Joana Brome, 1682-1683.     The tenuous period between the English Civil War and Glorious Revolution was marked by religious and political tension. The rivaling factions - Catholic-apologist monarchists and Protestant-leaning Parliamentarians more or less settled into their respective Whig and Tory blocs, constantly sparring with one another.     The Observator (printed from 1681-87) was written as a dialogue between a Whig (’Trimmer’) and Tory (’Observator’), with the latter always besting the former. Written with sharp insults and witty taunts, the pamphlet was designed to be read aloud to others, and foment popular support for King Charles II. Of special importance are the final two issues presented here, which include comments on the Rye House Plot, a failed conspiracy against the king’s life.     Sir Roger L’Estrange (1616-1704) was a committed monarchist and courtier. Eventually serving as a Member of Parliament, his public career ended with the onset of the Glorious Revolution.
