CARTE-DE-VISITE PHOTOGRAPH of Isachar Zacharie. Full-length view. Significantly, Zacharie wears the diamond pendant which he was noted for.

Photographer: Israel & Co., Baltimore. Three cent green Proprietary revenue stamp affixed.

UNKNOWN IMAGE OF ISACHAR ZACHARIE. Civil War-period image extracted from a Baltimore Family photograph album that included other Jewish subjects and photographers (including two of Rabbi David Einhorn). This photo is accurately attributed to Zacharie compared with later photographs of him.

English-born Isachar Zacharie (1825-1900) emigrated to the United States where, through his successful podiatry practice, he became a close confidant and advisor to President Abraham Lincoln. In 1862-63 Lincoln sent Zacharie on clandestine espionage missions to New Orleans and Richmond for the purpose of ending the war through diplomatic channels.
