Vienna Eckstein / Schilling, 1881 Ignaz Kuranda (1812-84) was an Austrian-Jewish politician, writer and community leader. Championing a liberal agenda, he supported aspects of the Revolutions of 1848 and helped establish Austria’s standards for a free press. Elected to Austria’s Reichsrat, he also served as president of the Jewish community of Vienna.
