Friedenwald (1801-92) was a pillar of the Orthodox Jewish community of Baltimore, involved in a myriad of charitable activities. His youngest son was the distinguished opthamologist and community leader Dr. Aaron Friedenwald (1836–1902), whose eldest son in turn, was Dr. Harry Friedenwald (1864–1950) also an opthamologist, as well as noted Zionist and collector.
