(AMERICAN-JUDAICA). CABINET PHOTOGRAPH of Leopold Mayer, Captain, Company C, 12th Pennsylvania Cavalry. Standing view. Postwar photograph by Mosher, Chicago. Leopold inscribed the verso of this photo in brown period ink on October 3, 1893. Proudly, he states he was captured twice and escaped two Confederate prisons. He successfully took part in tunneling out of Richmond’s Libby Prison, the war’s most famous prison break. Later he escaped from Columbia, South Carolina. Two brothers of Leopold also served under his command.
