(AMERICAN-JUDAICA). CARTE-DE-VISITE PHOTOGRAPH of Brevet Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Moses, U. S. Volunteers, Adjutant General Dept. Full standing “Napoleonic” pose, uniformed with sword. No photog. imprint. Moses inscribed the entire verso in brown period ink: “To L. L. King Esq. / with regards of / Maj. Isaac Moses / asst adj Genl U. S. A. /Nov. 15/62.” Returned from family business in China to serve in war. Initially Moses served as a significant aeronaut in the Balloon Corps. He made ascensions with General Heintzleman and Thaddeus Lowe. From aloft Moses observed and reported on early Confederate positions and troop movements. He ascended to observe and report on the enemy during the 1862 Peninsular Campaign. He subsequently served on the staff of General John Porter Hatch.
