Myers was the highest ranking Jew in the Confederate army serving as Quartermaster General with the rank of full Colonel. Born in Georgetown, South Carolina in 1811, he graduated USMA, West Point in 1833. He served in the Second Seminole War and in the Mexican War with distinction. He commanded the Quartermaster stores in New Orleans which he surrendered to the Confederacy, simultaneously resigning his U.S. Army commission to join the Confederate Army. He helped design the first Confederate army uniform. Fort Myers, Florida is named in honor of Abraham C. Myers. His wife, Marion Twiggs Myers, was the daughter of General David E. Twiggs.
