DUTCH SHEET-BRASS CHANUKAH LAMP. Openwork backplate with convex heart in high relief flanked by figures in male folk costume. Hinged side-panels in scrolled vegetal openwork. Fronted by row of eight oil-fonts / candle-holders attached to wide removable platform. 11 x 16 inches (28 x 40.5 inches). 18th-century PROVENANCE:   A prominent New York family, comprising four generations of collectors.     A practically identical lamp is found in the Israel Museum - Stieglitz Collection, differing only in the front platform. See Stieglitz Catalogue (1987) no. 168. The male figures here wear short-tailed coats with rows of buttons, tall caps and trimmed beards.
