(Gdansk), 9th April, 1745.     Regulation of the City Council regarding the presence of Jews within the city of Gdańsk.     In the era of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Jews were not allowed to live nor conduct business within the Gdansk city walls. Only with the purchase of special safe conduct passes was temporary permission granted. All forms of intermediation and exchange of gifts which might allow Jews to circumvent the restrictions were forbidden. Innkeepers were obliged to ensure that Jews staying overnight did not remain longer than allowed by the law. Denunciation is here encouraged, innkeepers were subject to penalties for failing to abide by this renewable law.
