(HOLOCAUST). BRONZE MEDAL.  Ein Nazi Fährt nach Palästina und Erzählt Davon im Angriff [“A Nazi Travels to Palestine and tells about it in ‘Attack.’’] Promotional medal minted for the nationalist German newspaper Der Angriff (”The Attack”). Struck at Lauer of Nuremberg, circular, bronze colored metal coin with a smooth edge and an embossed design on the front of a Star-of-David encircled by German text, with a raised rim. The back features an embossed swastika with 3 lines of German text below within a circle with a raised border next to the raised rim. Diam. 36mm . Nuremberg, 1934. A MEMENTO OF COOPERATION BETWEEN THE NAZI PARTY AND THE GERMAN ZIONIST ASSOCIATION, IN FAVOR OF THE MUTUAL GOAL OF BRINGING GERMAN JEWS TO PALESTINE (“THE TRANSFER AGREEMENT.”)     At the start of Nazi rule in Germany, the Zionist movement tended to cooperate with the Hitler regime as both had the same goal - of course for diametrically different reasons - the immigration of German Jews to Palestine.         In the spring of 1933, the Union of German Zionists contacted elements within the Nazi party that might support the Zionist cause. Kurt Tuchler, a German-Jewish jurist who was a member of the German Zionist Association, formed a relationship with Baron Leopold von Mildenstein, head of the Jewish Department of the SD (Nazi and SS Security Service). With their respective wives, the two traveled to Palestine for a month, in order to give von Mildenstein an impression of the Zionist enterprise. Subsequently von Mildenstein published a dozen illustrated articles, with the full cooperation of propaganda minister Josef Goebbels, of his mostly favorable impressions of Palestine. On the occasion of the published series, entitled “Ein Nazi fährt nach Palästina” (A Nazi goes to Palestine), Goebbels issued this medal.         The remarkably unlikely cooperation between Tuchler and von Mildenstein’s was a feature of the Israeli documentary film “HaDirah” (The Flat), directed by Arnon Goldfinger, Tuchler’s grandson.
