(GERMANY). Margaret Fraenkel. German-Jewish schoolgirl’s Autograph Album. 37 entries, with 17 original drawings. German text. Browned, split, few leaves loose. Original calf with metal vignette on upper cover, rubbed. 8vo. Berlin, 1898.     Poetry album belonging to a teenage Margarete Fraenkel, whose friends and classmates at the Jewish Girls' School in Berlin record entries.     Loving wishes include:      * ”Noble be the human being, helpful and good.” (Sophie Dannenbaum. March 22, 1898).      * ”Whoever loves the good only because it is good, only he is quite good.” (Margarete Cohn. March 15, 1898).      * ”People err as long as they strive.” (Olga Kuttner. February 9, 1898).     Many classmates decorated their wishes with pen or pencil drawings, OFTEN WITH   WATERCOLOR.     Other entries include those by: Clara Biester, Käthe Glaserfeld, Kathi Friedländer, Elise Simon, Charlotte Herz, Erlse Hirsch, Käthe Levinson, Getrud Engelmann, Florentine Gaertner, Lotte Ascher, Agnes Sparfeld, Lilly Fischer, Trude Franck and Lilly Kuczynski (very likely the daughter of the banker Wilhelm Kuczynski).   The JUDISCHE MADCHENSCHULE was the first school for Jewish girls in Berlin, initially located at 2 Rosenstrasse and then in 1930, it moved to 11-13 Auguststrasse according to plans designed by the prominent Jewish architect Alexander Beer (1873-1944).
