German Islamic and Semitic scholar Hubert Grimme (1864-1942) taught at the universities of Freiburg im Üechtland (1889–1910) and Münster (1910–1929). As a researcher, Grimme focused primarily on South Arabic and Semitic texts, especially the development of the Hebrew alphabet and the Proto-Sinaitic script.
