Contains (Hebrew) history of the founding of Talmud Torah, signatures of donors and members from 1931-1940, dedication from pedagogue Yitzchak Heilprin (1880-1942). Title-page printed in gold. pp. 20 (excluding a great many blanks), leaves detached. Original gilt-tooled thick boards, worn. Folio.

The origins of the Machzikei Talmud Torah of Boro Park lay in a chance encounter between R. Shmuel Tzvi Wein, the Vyzoner Rov (1835-1918) and a young child in 1906. R. Wein asked the boy if he was preparing for his Bar Mitzvah and the boy responded in the negative. The boy’s father confirmed: “My son will be an American, and not a good-for-nothing Batlan like us.” Shocked by this radical move away from tradition, The Wizoner Rov immediately sought to organize a high-level traditional Talmud Torah. These efforts came to fruition two years later with the help of other community members, notably the Aaronson and Friedland families, moving into its permanent location at 1315 43rd Street in 1912.
In addition to providing a strictly Orthodox education, the Talmud Torah also began to engage in pioneering pedagogic methods, such as ‘Ivrit B’Ivrit’ under the leadership of its principal S. Ginzburg.
