(AMERICAN-JUDAICA). Carte-de-visite photograph of Abraham Sulzberger (father of Mayer Sulzberger). Photographer: Walker stamp on the reverse. Philadelphia: c. 1860's Abraham Sulzberger (1810-86) emigrated to the United States following the failed revolution of 1848 in his native Heidelsheim. Sulzberger was a learned Jew and Hazan in his native land, and taught and transferred his love of Jewish and general learning to his son Mayer (b. 1843), who grew to become one of the leading American Jewish laymen in the latter part of the 19th and early 20th century, renowned for being a Jewish educator, bibliophile and most famously, a judge.
