MALBIM, MEIR LEIBUSH (Weiser, 1809-79). Autograph Legal Opinion Signed. Written in Hebrew, yet interestingly, dated according to the secular calendar. Stating that a particular woman who stole and subsequently ran away should be forcibly returned to her family home. Makes mention of the police, and of the town of Kalarash (today, Călăraşi, Moldova, home of the SKVERER REBBE 1927-33). One page. Budapest: ”5th August [Hebrew], [1]858” R. Meir Leibish Malbim known by the acronym ”Malbim” (Meir Leibish Ben Yechiel Michel) is famed for his exceptional commentary to Tanach. His service as Chief Rabbi of Bucharest, Rumania, was often strained however due to inter-community dispute.
