In the winter of 1945-1946, Holocaust survivors in displaced persons camps around Munich created an extraordinary illustrated haggadah in preparation for the first Passover after liberation. The "A" paste-down on the slipcase is the insignia of the U.S. Third Army, the force that occupied southern Germany after World War II and first assisted in printing the haggadah in 1946. For a copy of the original Hagadah, see Kestenbaum Sale 47, lot 132.
