Aden: Menahem Oetz 1894 The historic Yemenite Jewish community which resided in the port city of Aden, near the eastern approach to the Red Sea (the Gulf of Aden), became distinct from other Yemenite Jews due to British control of the city and Indian-Iraqi influence as well as later arrivals from Persia and Egypt. Although they were separated, Adeni Jews depended on the greater Yemenite community for spiritual guidance, receiving their Halachic authorizations from mainstream Yemeni rabbis.
