Turin: 1942 During the course of 1942 there were several bombing raids on the city of Turin and the Great Synagogue itself was damaged. It was the following year that the Jews of Turin, and indeed the Jews in all of Italy, were rounded up for deportation to the extermination camps in Poland. The few Jews who survived and returned to Turin included Primo Levi, who in fact went back to the very home in which he was born (and years later, committed suicide).
