(AMERICAN-JUDAICA). Letter from the Bank of the United States to Abraham Moïse, Jr. Letter of protest concerning nonpayment. From the national bank created in 1791 by Alexander Hamilton. New York: 28th December 1828 Moïse (1799-1869) was the son of Abraham Moïse, Sr., an Alsatian immigrant to the United States by way of the West Indies. Moïse, Jr., the first of this family born in the United States, was a Charleston lawyer, who served as justice of the peace (1827-1840) and magistrate (1842-1859). His wife was Caroline Agnes Moses, granddaughter of Meyer Moses (1735-1800), a Charleston Revolutionary War hero.
