A leading rabbinical authority of his day, R. Yoseph Shaul Nathanson was well known for his multi-volume collection of responsa: Sho’el U’Meishiv, among many other works. Childless, he was independently wealthy, hence his life was exclusively devoted to philanthropic affairs and scholarly pursuits.
