Bidspirit auction | Large Balinese Wood Gold Leaf

Large Balinese Wood Gold Leaf King Mask - Hand carved 20th century wooden wall mask in the Balinese topeng tradition: a bearded king or sage with a tall three lobed crown, gilded face, and an open, speaking mouth. The face is covered in gold leaf over carved wood. Height: 19.5 inches Width: 11 inches The mask is in good vintage condition, exhibiting significant age-related wear that contributes to a distressed aesthetic. There is extensive loss and rubbing to the gold leaf gilding throughout the raised surfaces. Several small chips and abrasions are visible along the outer edges and textured mane.
