Bidspirit auction | Hayward Gold-Filled Floral Repousse Parasol

Hayward Gold-Filled Floral Repousse Parasol Handle - This antique parasol handle features a high-relief repousse and chased design characteristic of the late 19th-century Aesthetic Movement. The surface is decorated with a continuous pattern of five-petaled blooming flowers nestled within foliate scrolls and textured grounds. The grip is formed into a flattened knob shape, which bears the engraved name Belle in a blackletter gothic script on the top surface. A diamond-shaped mark containing the letter H is stamped into the gold-colored sleeve at the base. The lower cylindrical attachment fitting is stamped with the characters S and PAT D 12-18, indicating a patented design date. The item consists of the decorative handle and its mechanical fitting; the original wooden or metal shaft and parasol body are not present. Length: 12 5/8 inches. The handle is in fair antique condition. The gold-filled surface shows significant wear and pitting, particularly on the top of the knob near the engraving. There are small spots of green verdigris corrosion visible near the base where the attachment fitting emerges from the gold sleeve. The internal mechanism is missing its original shaft.
