Newark Sterling Co Individual Salt Cellars & Spoons 86.6 Grams - A set of six individual sterling salt cellars and six sterling salt spoons. The cellars are of bulbous form with a stepped circular base and slightly flared rim, each bearing the maker's mark for the Newark Sterling Co. (active Newark, NJ, early 20th century) stamped ”NSCo” above ”STERLING” and the model number ”50” on the underside. Each cellar is further embellished with a gothic-style monogram ”M” engraved on the side. The interiors show remnants of original gold wash, or vermeil, used to prevent corrosion from salt contact. The six salt spoons feature similar gothic ”M” monograms on the handles. One spoon is marked ”NSCo STERLING” matching the cellars. Another spoon bears a maker's mark of a shield-shaped border containing the letter ”A” flanked by circular motifs, stamped ”STERLING” and engraved ”1911” on the reverse. The remaining spoons are similarly marked with a maker's mark and sterling fineness. Height: 0.75 inches Diameter: 1.375 inches Spoon Length: 2.125 inches Weight: 86.6 grams. The set is in good antique condition. All pieces show significant oxidation and tarnish throughout. The gold wash on the interior of the cellars is heavily worn and pitted from historical use with salt. There are no significant dents, cracks, or structural repairs visible, and all engraved monograms remain crisp and legible.
