Framed 1954 History of Transportation Cross-Stitch Sampler - A vintage mid-century needlework sampler titled HISTORY OF TRANSPORTATION in red cross-stitched block lettering. The work features a map of the United States on a cream-colored even-weave linen ground, populated with various vignettes illustrating the evolution of American travel. Included motifs feature a sailing ship, steamship, Native American tepees, a covered wagon, a stagecoach drawn by horses, an early steam locomotive, a penny-farthing, a modern bicycle, a cowboy, and a red monoplane. The lower-center portion is stitched with the date 1954. A decorative compass rose is positioned in the lower-left corner with the cardinal directions N, S, E, and W.
