Denslow Alcott & Vintage Hardcover Book Assortment - An assortment of four antique and vintage hardcover volumes primarily focused on early 20th-century children's literature and educational subjects. The collection is led by Billy Bounce by W. W. Denslow and Dudley A. Bragdon, a 1906 copyright edition from M. A. Donohue & Company featuring numerous color and black-and-white illustrations by Denslow. This volume includes a printed copyright statement reading Copyright 1906 by W.W. Denslow and an illustrated title page. A 1934 illustrated edition of Under the Lilacs by Louisa May Alcott is included, published by The John C. Winston Company as part of The Children's Bookshelf series with illustrations by Eunice Stephenson. A vintage black and white adhesive label for Hudson's Book Shop Detroit is present on the front endpaper of the Alcott volume alongside a blue-stamped illustration of The Alcott Home. The group is completed by a 1920 copyright printing of The Mastery of Words, Book One by Sarah Louise Arnold, published by Iroquois Publishing Company, and a 1944 second printing of None But a Mule by Barbara Woollcott. The Woollcott volume, published by The Viking Press, contains a printed notice regarding compliance with War Production Board conservation orders and features teal pictorial endpapers. The book collection is in overall poor to fair antique condition, with significant structural wear, tanning, and foxing to internal pages. Billy Bounce exhibits a split front interior hinge with exposed mesh and heavy fraying with loss at the spine ends. Under the Lilacs shows a heavily chipped pictorial paper label on the front board, a shaken binding, and missing pieces to the spine title label. The Arnold volume features a crude blue cloth tape repair to the spine and shelf wear to the edges, while the 1944 volume exhibits a spine lean and surface soiling.
