James Sadler American Bicentennial Commemorative Earthenware Teapot - This glazed earthenware teapot was produced by James Sadler and Sons Ltd. to commemorate the 1976 American Bicentennial. The vessel features a bulbous, slightly faceted body with a curved spout and a scroll handle. The matching lid is topped with a fluted gold-tone finial. Decoration consists of transfer-printed motifs on a cream ground. The primary side displays a central vignette of the Liberty Bell flanked by American and British flags, muskets, and cannons, surmounted by a yellow banner reading American Bi-centenary 1776 - 1976. The reverse side features the same central motif under a banner inscribed Proclaim Liberty Throughout The Land Unto All The Inhabitants Thereof. The lid is decorated with a military drum and crossed flags. Gold-tone accents are applied to the spout, handle, and framing scrolls. The underside of the base bears embossed marks for Sadler and England. Centered black printed text reads: This exclusive design has been commissioned by James Sadler and Sons Ltd of England as a special edition to commemorate the bi-centenary of the American War of Independence 1776 - 1976. Hand-marked characters 3721 and a script w are also present. Height: 6.5 inches Width: 9.5 inches The teapot exhibits overall fine crazing to the glaze. No chips, cracks, or professional repairs are visible. There is minor wear to the gold-tone gilding consistent with age and use.
