Balinese Hand-Carved Hardwood Sculpture of a Fisherman - This hand-carved hardwood sculpture, attributed to Balinese origin, depicts a fisherman wearing a wide-brimmed conical hat and a loincloth while hauling a large net. The figure is rendered from a dense, dark-grained hardwood featuring a glossy finish that emphasizes the natural chocolate-colored timber. The sculpture is mounted on an integral, irregularly shaped base carved with stylized rocky and wave-like motifs. The net is executed with intricate openwork carving. No maker's marks, signatures, or edition numbers are present on the body or the base. The underside of the base reveals the natural wood grain, a small patch of white adhesive residue, and four clear protective bumpers. 16 inches (height). 7.5 inches base The sculpture remains structurally sound. There are several small chips and losses visible on the delicate edges of the openwork net and the rocky protrusions of the base. A small area of white residue is present on the underside of the base.
