Two Mid-20th Century Cotton Nine Patch and String Quilts - Two vintage textile quilts, likely dating to the mid-20th century, is constructed from various cotton fabrics. One features a ”Nine Patch” or ”Four Patch” variant block pattern, composed of small floral and geometric prints in vibrant and pastel colors, set within a grid of pink sashing and bordered by lighter sashing. The other quilt presents a contrasting, pieced design, utilizing an assortment of patterned fabric scraps, including blue florals, green leaves, striped motifs, and red patterns, arranged in large triangular and rectangular segments, characteristic of a ”string quilt” or utility quilt. Visible on some of the vertical fabric strips on the reverse are red Chinese characters ”榮華” (Rónghuá), which translates to ”Prosperity” or ”Glory, ” possibly part of a brand name such as ”SHINGWAH” or ”WINGWAH.” Visible quilting stitches are present throughout.
