Western Yiddish (in Tzenah URenah typeface). These statutes comprise all community affairs and synagogue procedures. They detail the roles and responsibilities of community officials, rabbis and tzedakah collectors; elections and administrative meetings; management of funds, tax collection, charity distribution and support for the needy; relations with the local government; synagogue procedures, cantors, prayer rite and honors; as well as rules for circumcisions, weddings and mitzvah feasts, care for the sick, burial and Chevra Kadisha affairs. Original fine green-colored leather binding, with gilt decorations and vegetal-patterned frames, incorporating crowns and bells; depictions of angelic figures holding a crown at top; gilt medallion at center, with the emblem of the Ashkenazic community in Amsterdam – a Star of David with the initials of Kehal Ashkenazim Amsterdam. The spine is composed of six segments also decorated with gilt. Pair of brass clasps. Leather slipcase, also with gilt decorations, with emblem of Ashkenazic community on both sides. Owner's name inscribed on binding and front of slipcase: ”Community leader R. Mordechai son of R. Ziskind Levi Embden”. R. Mordechai van Embden was a tea and gem merchant, a leader of the Ashkenazic community in Amsterdam. In 1741 he married his niece Rivkah daughter of his brother Avraham. His name appears on the present booklets during his 1765-1774 tenure as community leader (he signed a letter to R. Shaul HaLevi Rabbi of The Hague in 1781;
