Ulrich Jasper Seetzen (1767-1811), German doctor, scientist and traveler. Known as a researcher of Eretz Israel and the Arab Peninsula, he was considered one of the most important German Orientalists. In 1802 started a geographical research journey to Turkey, the Middle East and the Arab Peninsula. This journey lasted nine years. The first station was Constantinople. From there he continued to Izmir and Aleppo. While travelling he learned Arabic and got acquainted with the Arab life style. Later he visited Eretz Israel and Trans-Jordan. In the years 1806-1807 he stayed in the Dead Sea area and was the first to conduct scientific observations in the area. His journey ended in Yemen, where he was murdered by order of the Imam of Sana'a. During his journeys he purchased manuscripts and objects. Most of the collection was lost. What remains of it is preserved in the Gotha University Library. [1], 20,40,26, [2] pp, 40 cm. Good condition. Stains, minor tears. New binding. Ex-Libris label of the historian Nathan Schur.
