"Guttman drew the various neighborhoods of Jerusalem when he was but a boy of 11… Using these sketches, he made a limited number of engravings in Vienna in 1920 in a limited edition… Fifty-eight years later these prints were done anew by the Bezalel engraving workshop, under the supervision of Nahum Gutman… in these engravings – the very early works – we have the sounds, colors, the very odors of the Land of Israel which we will never again see…" (from the introduction by Shlomo Shva).
