Tefillin Bag and Two Embroidered Dedication Plaques - North Africa - 1. Velvet Tefillin bag (”Sakara de Tefillin”). [Tangier, Morocco, early 20th century]. Purple velvet on cardboard; golden thread embroidery. Shield shaped bag, on one side an inscription:”Aharon”, on the other side: ”Uziel”, with a geometric and vegetal decoration. The bag has braided laces. Length: 22 cm, width: 13.5-16 cm. Fair-good condition. Some unraveled threads. Attachment of the two sides of the bag are unraveled. 2. Embroidered dedication plaque. North Africa (Morocco), [early 20th century]. Silk on cardboard; golden thread embroidery. The plaque bears the inscription: ”dedicated by Esther Ben Yizri Shalom in memory of her father David Cohen” (Hebrew). Length: 20 cm, width: 12.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Some letters are not completely embroidered. Wear and slight tears. 3. Embroidered dedication plaque. North Africa (Morocco), [early 20th century]. Silk on cardboard, silver thread embroidery. The plate bears the inscription: ”Dedicated by Shalom Ben Yizri in memory of his father Maimon Ben Yizri” (Hebrew). Length: 21 cm, width: 13.5 cm. Fair condition. Stains, wear and perforations to plate, some letters are not completely covered. Provenance: Collection of Willy Lindwer.
