Paris: Chez Dagetau et Cie, Libraires, 1846. French. First edition of the important essay by the Polish writer, translator and poet Léon (Leib Ben David) Hollaenderski (1808-1878), which was translated into German in that same year (and into English twenty years later). The book is accompanied by five prints (out of the original six) depicting Jewish figures. Two of the illustrations are signed in the plate ”Bisson”. XVI, [1], 342 pp. [5] plates (out of the original six; frontispiece missing), 22.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Minor stains. Creases and folds to corners of leaves, sometimes with small tears. Original cover, restored, with new spine and endpapers. Stains and tears to cover. Signature on front cover. The volume is slightly misshapen.
