Antique Japanese Edo Period Eboshi Hat
Eboshi is a traditional Japanese hat primarily worn by nobles and samurai from the Heian period to the Edo period. Made of black lacquer, it fits snugly on the head. It was mainly used in ceremonies and official occasions, serving to indicate the wearer's rank and status. The shape and decoration of the eboshi varied according to the social status and position of the wearer. Bladesmiths also wear such a hat when preparing to forge an important sword. 10 inches L x 7.5 H x 5 W, on stand 16 inches H.
