Identified WWII US Navy Officers Medal Archive - A Nice Identified WWII USN Medal Grouping and Document Archive belonging to John Francis Zamparelli who enlisted in the Navy in December of 1942. After training in 1944 he was transferred from the V-12 Program to the Naval Midshipmen's School at the University of Notre Dame. He was the Middleweight Boxing Champion of Midshipmen's School, Volunteered for the LCT (Landing Craft Tank) duty or any craft to hit the beach in the first five waves, Commissioned as Ensign upon graduation, Ordered to San Francisco before reporting to Hawaii for LCT indoctrination, Awarded Admiral Nimitz Naval Citation with star for taking the first LCT from Pearl Harbor to Philippines which traveled on its own power for forty-three days instead of usual launching from an LST (Landing Ship Tank). Duties of LCT included loading of ammunition from Victory and Liberty ships for transfer to Battleships, Aircraft Carriers, Heavy and Light Cruisers, Destroyers and all other fighting ships of the Navy. The group comes with a frame of his medals in awards and copious documentation, including his separation form outlining all of his awards. There is too much materials to detail, but essentially present is his entire paper archive from when enlisted through his discharge. Overall a really nice group with good history!!
