Scarce Indian Wars Model 1879 Type Winter Hat - This is piece of headgear is attributed to the Model 1879 Indian Wars Winter Hat as illustrated in numerous publication including the Smithsonian book of US Military Headgear. This being a very nice example with very little wear only from honest use. Body of the hat is in very good condition overall with no tears or rips or loss. The liner is of black cloth construction and is separating slightly at in areas. Has one wear spot in crown but overall a very solid example. I can't, however, guarantee exactly what kind of material this hat is made out, but it looks very close if not exactly like the other ones illustrated in numerous publications. Either way, a fairly scarce piece of American headgear not often encountered!
