A MAGNIFICENT INDIAN COLONIAL SILVER WINE CLARET JUG. India, c. 1880 - Kutch(Cutch)/Gujarat or Kashmir. c. 1880. Intensely chased with antelope, dogs, foxes, a hunter, a bull and other animals, many in hunting stages. Topped with a squirrel finial. The body and neck are chased all over with floral and foliate scrollwork against a finely tooled background. Interspersed are eight roundels filled with animal hunt scenes and more floral sprays. The animal hunt scenes draw on the style of traditional stucco wall paintings in Kutch.The jug is in good condition. No dents or repairs. It is not marked but is in the style of Oomersi Mawji, the most famous of Kutch silversmiths. 13” tall and 1038.8 grams
