AN EXCEPTIONAL SILVER TORAH SHIELD. Italy, 1792. The lower portion in rare amuletic form, chased with Cohanic laver and basin. The large midsection decorated with Cohanic hand formation, C-scrolls and floral design. Chased in Hebrew “IN HONOR OF THE TORAH” and “THE TORAH OF HASHEM IS PERFECT”. The upper portion engraved with dedication in central cartouche indicating that it was given in memory of Ephraim son of Joseph. Overall size 22”. Main section is 10” tall.
