A LARGE GILDED WOOD CARVED ARON HAKODESH TOP. Romania, 19th century. Carved from one piece of wood. Carved scrolling leaf work with two lions flanking a crest in which is engraved the Hebrew initials for Keter Malchut (Crown of Kingship). Topped by a crown. The previous owner relates that this carving was in the synagogue in Buhusi, Romania, where Rabbi Yitzchak Friedman, son of the Grand Rebbe of Ruzhyn, Rabbi Yisroel Friedman established court before moving the community to Israel in 1951. 48” x 22”.
