Commentary on the Haggadah by the Divine Kabbalist Rabbi Yosef Gikatilla - Venice, 1602 - First Edition - The First Published Kabbalist Commentary on the Haggadah!
Commentary on the Passover Haggadah by the Divine kabbalist Rabbi Yosef Gikatilla of Spain.
Venice, 1602. First edition. The year of printing according to the book "Likutei Shoshanim" (Venice, 1602). At the beginning of this book there is the printer's introduction, Reb David Ben Hin, and it is meant for the three books that he had published together: Sefer Gerushin by Rabbi Moshe Cordovero, the commentary on the Jaggadah and the book Likutei Shoshanim.
Before us is the first edition of the first published kabbalist commentary on the Haggadah.
The commentary was printed six years later in the book "Ha'Nefesh Ha'Chachama" by Rabbi Moshe de Leon (Basila, 1608).
Some attribute the commentary to Rabbi Shlomo Ben Aderet (the Rashba).

Rabbi Yosef Gikatilla was one of the greatest Kabbalists in Spain of the 13th century. He left his mark by authoring the well-known book "Sha'arei Orah". He lived in the time of the most prominent Rishonim: the Rashba, Rabeinu Bechayei, Rabbi Moshe de Leon (the redactor of the Zohar). Rabbi Yosef was considered the greatest disciple of Rabbi Avraham Abulafia, who said of him in his book "Otzar Eden Ha'Ganuz": "He undoubtedly succeeded with what he learned with me and added from his strength and mind and God as with him".
When he was 24, he authored the book "Ginat Egoz" on gematria and kabbalist names (first printed in Haneva, 1615). His book "Sha'arei Orah" is considered the basic kabbala book. The Ari said of this book that it is the key to kabbala. Additional books he authored: "Sha'arei Tzedek", "Ha'Nikud", "Ha'Chashmal", "Ha'Nachash", "Klalei Ha'Mitzvot", "Igeret Ha'Kodesh", "Sefer Ha'Meshalim".
Hanhagot and Halachot by Rabbi Yosef Gikatilla are presented by Maran the "Beit Yosef" in his book.
