MARGAINE, A GOOD LATE 19TH CENTURY FRENCH GILT BRASS GORGE CASE GRAND SONNERIE CARRIAGE CLOCK OF LARGE SIZE the plain gilt masked dial enclosing an enamel centre with Arabic numerals above a subsidiary alarm dial fronting an eight-day spring driven movement with original silvered jewelled lever balanced escapement and quarter striking/ repeating on two coiled gongs - with alarm hammer also. Interchange lever beneath base for full/silent/quarter striking and makers stamp/serial number to backplate 18007. (18.5cm high handle up.)
