Five Portrait Miniatures Incl. Napoleon and Josephine - Description: Group of five portrait miniatures including two pairs and a single gentleman. The first pair of portraits depicting Napoleon and his wife, Josephine. Watercolor or gouache on paper in hexagonal faux tortoise shell frames. Both portraits indistinctly signed lower right. The second pair, depicting a lady and a gentleman, also watercolor or gouache on paper, in round faux tortoiseshell frames with mother of pearl accents. The portrait of a lady indistinctly signed lower right. The last miniature, an unsigned portrait of a gentleman on in a round brass frame Markings & Inscriptions: Some indistinctly marked Date: 19th century Maker: American or English Dimensions: Portraits of Napoleon and Josephine measure 4” x 3.5”. Provenance: From a Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania collection. Condition: Fair to poor condition. The bezel and glass detached from the portrait of Napoleon. The portrait of the gentleman removable from the faux tortoiseshell frame with glass and bezel attached to the portrait and not the frame. Crack to the frame verso of the same portrait. The portrait of the gentleman with a vertical crack down the center of the portrait. Scattered losses to the edges of most of the portraits on paper. Abrasions to the frames.
