Philadelphia Chippendale Walnut Lowboy Ca. 1765 - Description: A period Philadelphia Chippendale walnut lowboy ca. 1765, the scalloped molded top resting above a full-width and three lip molded drawers, the central drawer bearing ornately carved foliate decoration around a central shell, all above the scalloped skirt and within fluted columnar corners, and raised upon cabriole legs having knees decorated with carved shells and terminating in ball-and-claw feet. Type: Lowboy Materials: Walnut, brass Markings & Inscriptions: Unmarked Date: Ca. 1765 Maker: Unknown, Philadelphia Dimensions: 29.5” x 37” x 22.5” Provenance: From a Media, Pennsylvania collection. Condition: The top is old but replaced and has a shrinkage crack through approximately one-half of the middle. The brasses are old and possibly original. The surface bears a charming patina of age.
