AN EARLY RUSSIAN TULA CUT-STEEL-MOUNTED BURL-WOOD SEWING BOX, EARLY 19TH CENTURY - Russian, Tula, early 19th century. The burl-veneered wooden sewing box of rectangular cut-corner form, its hinged cover bordered with applied polished-steel bands and beadwork arranged in scrolling floral and foliate motifs, centered by an oval medallion of corresponding decoration. The front is fitted with a steel push catch and shaped escutcheon. The fitted pale-wood interior is arranged with a central well, narrow compartments, and several dark-stained removable or lidded sections with cut-steel pulls. Accompanied by an original steel key. Dimensions: L: 10 1/2in., W: 7 in., H: 2 3/8 in., (26.5 x 18 x 6 cm.) Conditions: Good overall with signs of wear and age. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
