A RUSSIAN TULA STEEL PIN CUSHION WITH TABLE CLAMP, CA. 1800 - A Russian Tula steel pincushion with table clamp, early 19th century. The canted rectangular body is ornamented with applied two-colour metal floral garlands and drapery swags, fitted with a small drawer with a ring pull and raised on ball feet. Surmounted by a domed black woolwork cushion and supported on a C-shaped table clamp decorated with a flowering branch, with an adjustable screw and T-bar handle. Dimensions: 2 3/8 x 2 1/8 x 5 in., (6 x 5.4 x 12.7 cm.) Conditions: Cushion in very good condition for its age. Steel is lightly oxidized throughout. Gilt accents well preserved.
