A RUSSIAN STEEL TULA SEWING BOX WITH GILT ACCENTS, CA. 1800 - A Russian Tula steel sewing box with gilt and copper-coloured accents, circa 1800. The rectangular case, raised on four ball feet, is embellished with applied ribbon-tied floral garlands, foliage and beaded borders. The removable pyramidal cover is similarly decorated and surmounted by a spring-operated, stylized bird-form sewing clamp. Its underside is fitted with a crimson velvet pincushion. The box is mounted on a decorated C-shaped table clamp with an adjustable screw and circular handle. Stamped in Cyrillic: ”T. I. Svechnin” on the case. Dimensions: 3 3/8 x 2 3/4 x 8 3/4 in., (8.6 x 7 x 22.2 cm.) Conditions: Very good, with light oxidation throughout surface. Clamps function well. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
