Bidspirit auction | AN ILLUMINATED LEAF FROM A

AN ILLUMINATED LEAF FROM A MANUSCRIPT OF THE DIVAN OF HAFEZ, PERSIA, 18TH CENTURY - Ink, watercolor, and gold on paper. A finely executed manuscript leaf containing verses from the Divan of the celebrated Persian poet Hafez of Shiraz (c. 1315–1390), written in elegant black Nasta'liq script arranged in alternating panels. The text is framed by delicate rulings and interspersed with illuminated floral cartouches painted in vibrant blue, red, gold, and green, reflecting the refined decorative traditions of Persian manuscript production. A handwritten label on the reverse identifies the work as ”Persian Calligraphy, Divan-i-Hafiz, 18th Century.” While the precise dating remains subject to further scholarly examination, the calligraphy and illumination are consistent with Persian manuscript traditions of the late Safavid to early Qajar period.
