Bidspirit auction | A GERMAN WW2 ORGANIZATION TODT
A GERMAN WW2 ORGANIZATION TODT TUNIC AND PANTS - Wartime Uniform, with Iron Cross 2nd Class Ribbon through Loop hole. Organisation Todt (OT) was Nazi Germany’s massive civil and military engineering group. It is most notorious for building Europe's largest defensive megastructures while operating a brutal system of forced and slave labor that resulted in more than 185,000 deaths. Founded in 1938 by Fritz Todt, the Reich Minister for Armaments and Ammunition, the OT grew from a small civil construction office into a multi-national paramilitary empire. When Todt died in a plane crash in 1942, he was succeeded by Albert Speer, who integrated the OT entirely into the wartime armaments ministry. They constructed the Westwall (Siegfried Line) along the French border and began work on the massive concrete U-boat pens and defensive bunkers known as the Atlantic Wall. As the war turned against Germany and Allied bombing intensified, the OT focused heavily on building underground factories, V-weapon launch sites, and repairing bombed railways. During this phase, it relied almost entirely on the brutal exploitation of concentration camp prisoners and prisoners of war. Germany, c. 1940s.
